Lady Gaga Inspired

Lady Gaga has created quite a quake, not only in the music world but the fashion world as well.  Here we've created two Gaga-inspired looks; these would be great for a night on the town.

This studded blazer has just enough attitude and edge, just like Lady G.  We say "go for it" when it comes to wearing studs and spikes as long as they're not big enough to skewer people, similar to the ones she wore here.  Add a little bandeau top underneath for a sexy, sleek look.  This would be great for a night of dancing: breathable, sexy, comfortable, edgy...Gaga would be proud!

Lady Gaga isn't too shy to show skin, but you don't want to over do it.  This great dress shows off your figure and just enough back to be sexy, not scandalous.  We paired it with a great chunky, chainlink necklace; try it with a pair of great embellished, leather booties like these.  This would be great for a late night dinner and drinks.

Minty Fresh

Zipper Tshirt by BB Dakota $44
Ruffle Tank by EightSixty $86
Long Sleeve Shirt by Alternative Apparel $38

Available at Jupe

If I had to choose one piece to update my wardrobe right now it would be a mint green top. Here are a few different ideas for incorporating one into your closet.
  • I love how it adds a fresh, light pop of color when paired with neutrals as shown above.
  • Try pairing a mint green top with bold accesories in bright fuchsia or cobalt blue for an unexpected contrast.
  • You could even wear it with nudes, grays, off-whites, and blush pinks for a romantic, muted head to toe look.
  • Try pairing a mint green tshirt with boyfriend chinos, pumps, and a feminine accessory (like Terra's headband or belt by Pittsburgh local Subu, Inc) for a softer menswear inspired look.

Add an orange accessory for a pop of Spring color.

Throw on a light trench for a chilly Spring morning or evening.

When buying a piece for your wardrobe versatility is not only an added bonus but in this case an understood neccesity.

Earth Day Giveaway! 10 Simple Ways to "Go Green"!

Attention fashionistas: "Going Green" is all the rage this season! April 22nd marks Earth Day, a holiday created in 1970 to inspire awareness and appreciation for the environment. With Earth Day just around the corner, we ladies at Jupe Boutique wanted to do our part in helping to promote the well-being of the planet. We have teamed up with E House Company, an adorable eco-friendly boutique located at 1511 East Carson Street in the Southside, to bring you 10 Simple Ways to "Go Green".

Give us one of your own eco-friendly ideas and automatically be entered to win a $50 gift card to E House Company! Just post a "go green" tip as a comment to this blog entry. The best idea wins the gift card! Winner to be selected on April 30.

Want suggestions on how you can help protect the planet? Then check out the following list, which was created by the fabulous Tanya at E House. It is filled with practical and rewarding ways to make your daily lifestyle more friendly to Mother Earth. Give them a try!

10 Simple Ways to “Go Green”

1.  Become energy-efficient and save money while doing so.
  • Use compact fluorescent light bulbs and/or LED lighting (Save 75% on electric bills).
  • Turn lights, etc. out when leaving a room.
  • Using Energy Star appliances helps greatly reduce energy use.
  • Use re-chargeable batteries (great for power-hogs like cameras).
  • Use a programmable thermostat (to turn the heat down while away).
2.  Use a re-useable shopping bag instead of disposable plastic grocery bags.
  • Why keep accumulating disposable plastic bags when you can reuse a compact, sturdy, and colorful bag like “ChicoBag” or “Envirosax”?  Using a re-useable shopping bag is actually becoming more of the norm these days, instead of the exception!  Green and fashionable at the same time!
3.  Stop junk mail:
  • To opt out of receiving all that pesky mail, you can go to: www.dmachoice.org  (Direct Marketing Association). They do charge a $1.00 fee, but it would be worth cutting down all the excess paper clogging the mailbox and landfills!
4.  Recycle your electronics.
5.  Use a water filter instead of buying bottled water
  • Prevent excessive plastic bottle waste, and conserve the energy it would require to transport them.  Using a water filter is more cost-effective in the long-run, anyway, and it conserves water (that would otherwise be  required in the processing of bottled water).
6.  Opt for organically-grown (i.e.) fruits & vegetables, and organic cotton clothes.

Organically–grown means that it’s grown without the use of pesticides.
  • Produce that typically uses the most pesticides (so buy organic when possible) = peach, apple, bell pepper, celery, nectarine, strawberries, cherries, kale, lettuce, grapes, carrot, pear.
  • Produce typically using the lowest amount of pesticides = onion, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, tomato, sweet potato.
7.  Use non-toxic & biodegradable household cleaners.
  • Time for Spring cleaning!  Consider using greener cleaning products.  Many cleaning products have harsh chemicals with fumes that can adversely affect your health (in various ways, from simply giving you a headache or skin irritation, to respiratory issues, to cancer!).  There are many safer cleaning products (such as Seventh Generation, Biokleen, etc.) as well as simple cleaners that you can make yourself. (see: http://www.ecocycle.org/hazwaste/recipes.cfm ). This way, there are less harsh chemical fumes in your home, as well as less chemicals downstream. It’s also a good time to open your windows for some fresh air!
8.   Less is more:
  • Opt for products with less packaging;  it reduces the amount of waste in landfills.
  • Better yet, opt for  recycled, such as recycled paper products (whether office paper or paper towel, etc.).
9.  Walk, bike, carpool, use public transportation or drive a hybrid car to work.
  • Also, run errands in an efficient loop, to save time, gas, and car emissions.
10.  Shop local businesses/local products (reduce the “carbon footprint”)
  • Support your small, local businesses like E House Company and Jupe Boutique!

BE "GREEN" AND SAVE! Use your own shopping bag at Jupe from now until April 30 and receive 40% any one item! In addition, save 10% off your next purchase at E House by mentioning this blog post!

The Crop Top!

Celebs are loving the crop top. Designers too. Are you hearting the style but feel unsure about how to rock it? Your favorite fashionistas at Jupe are here to help!

First, let's discuss how you SHOULDN'T wear the crop top. Avoid sporting it with unstructured shorts like Whitney Port (far right) does in the picture below. It looks sloppy and far from chic. Keep your bottoms fitted for a more proportional look. You also shouldn't let your belly button hang out like Lindsay Lohan (far left) does in her low rise denim shorts--it looks unpolished and a little too 90's.

Instead, take a cue from the Alexander Wang model (center left) and Audrina Patridge (center right). To avoid looking demode, only rock the crop with high-waisted bottoms. This keeps the outfit sophisticated and trendy as opposed to tacky.

For further inspiration, check out how this stylista pulls off the cropped look impeccably. Classic yet trendy.

Jupe has tons of great crop tops in a variety of fun colors. Don't be scared, stop in today and become part of the latest craze for summer!

1 DRESS, 3 WAYS

This beautiful jewel tone Ark & Co dress would be gorgeous just the way it is!
But instead, you can wear it three different ways; it's practically like having three different dresses!
See each style and where you can wear it:

All Zipped Up: This style has a great vintage feel, but the zipper gives it a bit of edge and modernity.
Great for work, an interview or a meet-the-parents date!

Single Lapel: This style has a great futuristic feel! Very unique single lapel/collar neckline.
This would be great for a day of shopping, dinner or a wedding.

Unzipped Plunge: This style adds the heat with a low neckline and adds interest with great drapey collars.
This is awesome for a night on the town or for that steamy saturday night date!

Spring Scarves

Ready to ditch the winter coat, but still a little chilly? Try a few light layers: tanks, tees, cardigans and top it off with a spring scarf. Lighter than the winter version, these scarves are the perfect way to combat the last bit of chill in the air. When it warms up in the afternoon just tie it onto the strap of your tote for a cute casual look. Functional and tres chic? What more could a girl ask for?
A few favorites at Jupe right now. Stop by to see what else we have for Spring!

Jupe's SWF Monthly Must-Have

Photobucket

Greetings style stewards! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Terra. I blog on stylish white female and I have the most insatiable style crush on Jupe Boutique. They could have stuck me in the creepy stalker category (a title of which I am fully deserving). Instead, they have sponsored SWF!

In return, I get to take on whatever style challenges they throw my way. Believe me when I say I... am... ready.

For my first style challenge, the fine ladies at Jupe asked me to work with this gorgeous, flowy blouse by eight sixty. Um... DONE.

I absolutely adore this print. Florals are huge for spring and summer. When aren't they, really? Spring, especially in Pittsburgh, is when we finally get to feel alive again. This winter was particularly brutal, am I right? So inject some bold color into your wardrobe!

I love how comfy the top is. I could eat a pound of dough and you'd never know. I kept it a little sexy by pulling the neck off of my shoulder. What gal doesn't love her shoulders?

I would wear this outfit on a day date. It's bright and lovely. Effortless enough that I wouldn't feel like I was trying too hard, but daring enough that I'd get my date to look twice. And thrice. ;) The skinnies on the bottom balance out the flouncy top.

By the way, I'm a shortie. Not like, "Hey shortie, can I get your number?" I'm five feet naught. So if anyone tells you little girls that you can't wear a big, bold print you tell 'em SWF said it was more than cool. And if you're a tallie, you'd better not ever pass up a fabulous print like this. These things were maaaade for you!

So tell me, what do you think of this top? Would you wear it? HOW would you wear it? SF minds want to know...

Goooooo to Jupe! If you love this top enough to make it your own, and you mention SWF, you'll get 20% off. This is your duh moment of the day.

The Bandeau Top!

What, you ask, is one of the hottest items for summer 2010? Why the bandeau top, of course! Not only is it super chic, but it's uber versatile--it can be worn under tanks, tees, dresses, vests, etc. Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, and Bottega Veneta all crafted renditions of this sexy trend--take a look at how some other fab designers showed the bandeau on the 2010 runway.

Jupe currently has two great bandeau tops by Gentle Fawn in stock, one in lime green and the other in dark gray. Stop in and try one on!

Loving the look but not sure how to pull it off? Check out this list of 10 fashion-forward ways to wear the bandeau.*

1. Buy a neon bandeau and wear under anything sheer and/or lacy.
2. Cut 10-inch-long holes around the arm holes of an over-sized t-shirt. Wear with a matching bandeau.
3. Layer under your favorite sheer silk summer dresses.
4. Pour yourself into a high-waisted pencil skirt with a wild print. Peep a bright bandeau under double breasted vest. Accessorize with stacked heels.
5. Break out last summer's rompers and give them new life.
6. Wear on top of a fitted plain-tee or a loose fitting tank.
7. Unbutton your oxford, and let a bandeau peak out.
8. Use as a modern-day "dickie" for sleek coverage under tight v-necks.
9. Save for a sunny day and wear tanning.
10. Use as a pop of color against a backless top or dress.

Use some of the advice from the list and make the bandeau top your own today!

Get Schooled On Chanel

Coco Chanel was born Gabrielle Chanel on August of 1883, in the small town of Saumur, France.  She was one of the pioneers of French fashion.  Her clothing was inspired by menswear and her modern views.  She aided in founding the brand Chanel, which is still famous and thriving today.  She believed in "expensive simplicity."  But here at Jupe, you know we believe in affordable beauty!  So here's how to get the classic Chanel look for less; if you prefer an edgier version of Chanel, we have that too!

For the classic look:
We paired our Necessary Objects jacket with a classic LBD and chain necklaces
(that resemble the Chanel purse's chain handle!).
For the edgy look:
We paired the jacket with an exposed zipper mini, burn out tee and bib necklace.
Where you see it:
The Chanel-inspired look is huge right now!  Check out the similar jacket on the cover of Lucky, in magazine ads and on the runway!

Okay, so I took the last one literally ;) But did you see this monstrosity!  Its a 75ft version of a Chanel jacket; it was on the Spring runway for Chanel in 2008...so cool!
How do you like wearing your chanel-inspired jacket?
