Fashion Week: Natalie's Picks from NYC Fall '09

Marc Jacobs surprises us season after season. With fluorescent colors, scarves, leggings and more, the 80's have arrived on the runway once again. If you haven't had a chance to experience this bold decade, then take advantage of the trend and hit the town with some leg warmers and layered skirt.

He has transformed some of the 80's most edgiest styles and took a bold step towards revitalizing the dreaded shoulder pads. Stripes, layers, ruffles and even plaids, there is something in this collection for everyone.

If this look is a bit too much for your taste, at least enjoy Marc's fun runway presentation. Makeup, sunglasses and big hair were his accessory picks. It makes me want to stop by 80's night and dance to Take on Me. Click here to view the collection.

Love the colors: neutrals with pops of dark, cool colors. Love the contrast of dressed up pieces with more casual sweaters. These looks by Rebecca Taylor just seem so effortlessly chic. Check out the full collection here.

Channel your Inner Tomboy for Spring 2009

During the 2007 fall season, we saw ladies gracing the runway in what was called “menswear” inspired clothing. Cropped pants, large watches, collared dress shirts and tailored jackets were all the rave. This spring, it seems as if the trend has carried over into warmer weather.

The big must-buy for the 2009 spring season is denim. Yes, it’s that time of the year to introduce a trendy item to your closet that you can mix and match to make several looks. A great way to start is with a pair of jeans. As pictured, Jupe Boutique has added iT brand jeans to its racks.

First pictured, the iT Sweetie jeans, are the oh so famous boyfriend style jeans. Katie Holmes, Lindsay Lohan, Jennifer Aniston and Sienna Miller are just some of the celebs that have been spotted wearing the trend. They are worn a bit baggy and folded up slightly above the ankle.

Try pairing an oversized white V-neck or plaid shirt with the jeans for a day look. The plaid shirt pictured is by Free People and available at Jupe. For evening, you can dress them up with a pair of heeled sandals and a form fitting black dress shirt. You might have trouble finding a pair under a hundred bucks, but no worries, Jupe has your back. The iT Sweetie jeans are a steal at $78.

The second pair pictured are the iT Mod Ankle jeans. Again, at only $78, they are an inexpensive way to add a stable piece to your closet. The Mod Angle jeans will introduce the rocker spirit into your wardrobe. Another 2009 spring trend is anything and everything with a rocker feel. From studded heels to ripped leggings, the tough look is in. The Mod Ankle jeans are slim fitting with a zipper at the ankles to add a bit of originality to the skinny jean. Try wearing the iT Mod Ankle jeans over heels with the zipper open to show a bit of ankle.

Trend We Love: Bold Colors for Spring

Sick of the usual pastels and light airy colors for Spring? Try a bright, bold color; even something neon. Paired with denim and black, these colors pop and are more fun than the usual springy colors. Because they go so well with dark colors, these are easy pieces to transition to spring with.

  • The colors in this racerback top by Jaloux (photo 1) allow for it to be worn now and through summer, while the modern shape keeps it from looking too 80's.
  • This cobalt blue jacket (photo 2) by Tulle is a cute transitional piece. The color is dark enough for now, but fresh enough for cooler spring weather.
  • Try pairing this Mink Pink skirt (photo 3) with black tights and booties for the remainder of winter and a brighter t-shirt once the weather turns warm.
  • Need a bright punch of color to help you make it through the last 6 weeks of winter? Try this cardigan by Miss Me (photo 4). Throw it on with jeans and a t-shirt now and over a sundress for cooler spring and summer nights.
