Pittsburgh Fashion Week

We had the honor of participating in Pittsburgh's inaugural Fashion Week on Monday. We presented 10 looks at the "Runway - Ready for Takeoff" show in the South Side Works.

We always love participating in fashion shows. It gives us a chance to flex our styling muscle and showcase some of our favorite Jupe pieces. Check out this sequin stunner. (All of our models wore ruby slippers in honor of the evening's "Fashion Oz" theme.)

How To Wear: Jupe's Ombre Fringe Necklace

This Ombre Fringe Necklace by Zad is a real gem--it's the perfect piece to help you achieve a put-together yet fashion forward statement when you hit the streets. Customers are loving it, but are unsure about how to wear it. So here's the 411....

This piece looks amazing with fun patterned pieces. For instance, check out how Kim of EatSleepWear rocks it with her black and white dress and leather bomber jacket. Tip: Stay with monocromatic patterns for a more classic and non-busy look.

Not as bold as Kim? Then try it with a plain tee or single color piece to add jazz and interest to an otherwise simple garment.

Fab Fall Find: The Perfect Work Dress

Fashionistas, take heed to this fabulous frock! It has everything that you could want in a work dress--it's feminine, fitted, and flattering, yet very work appropriate due to its neckline and length. Throw a blazer or cardigan over it for daytime, and transition it into nighttime with big earrings, heels and a metallic clutch. (It's very Joan from Mad Men if I do say so myself).

This gem of a dress was featured in People Magazine and has literally been flying off the shelves. We also have it available in navy. Get yours today!

Fab Fall Find: The Perfect Plaid Shirt!

One must-have piece of the season is definitely the plaid shirt. Celebs such as Katie Holmes, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Bosworth and Charlize Theron are all loving this look. Not only does it highlight the relaxed chic look when paired with the right denim and accessories, but it's uber comfortable to rock.

Jupe's plaid pick is by Creme Fraiche and it is definitely one of the best variations out there. The color scheme is classic yet updated, with velvet trim along the buttons and a slightly oversized boyfriend fit. In other words, plaid perfection.

Fashionistas--add this look to your fall wardrobe today!

Trend Talk: Lace!

Lace is totally major this fall. It was all over the 2010 runway (see below) and is being shown on everything from blouses and dresses to shoes and accessories. It is a great way to add a delicate and feminine touch to your ensemble. It also looks great when layered.

Think lace is a little too risque to be worn all over but want to stay on trend? Try incorporating it into your look in a smaller way. Look for lace tights or headbands that use a little of the fabric. One thing is for sure--lace is a must have this season. In other words ladies, go get your lace on!

Inspiration

Inspiration can come from anywhere and anyone . This couldn't be more true, especially with the recent publicity that 9 year old Willow Smith has been receiving. Willow has been in the public eye for recently signing a record deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Label and has recently been popping up in US weekly, InStyle, and People StyleWatch, for her edgy style . Willow seems to have a precise vision of who she is and wants to be . I am sure we will be seeing allot more from Willow in the future, here are some of her most popular fashion forward outfits.

South Side Style

Check out this fabulous customer who came strutting into the store over the weekend. She was wearing the perfect outfit to transition into cooler fall days. This simple outfit is a winner with when paired with effortless boho accessories.

Wise Words from Coco

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” --Coco Chanel

Trend Talk: Chain Headbands

Headbands are back at it for yet another season, but this time with a twist. Check out the hottest new variation on last season's head gear--the chain headband.

This killer piece is a perfect way to tie together your look, or to throw on when you are having a bad hair day--and lets face it, we all have them!

Wear it with your hair swept back, with a braid (see picture above), with a ponytail or messy bun, or across your forehead for a more bohemian vibe.

Check out Jupe's take on the chained hair accessory--it comes in Steeler colors (yellow and white) and also in navy and white. It's a total must have piece for the season!

The Duck Boot

One of the hottest trends for  fall 2010 is the duck boot. Designers such as Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch are bringing this trend back in multiple styles. You can get a high heeled duck boot , a knee high duck boot, an ankle duck boot, a fur duck boot....the list goes on and on. I personally love the trend , especially in Pittsburgh with the nasty weather we get here . Sometimes my UGG boots just don't cut it through all the snow and slush and i need something a little more sturdy. I think i will hop on the band wagon with this trend. Here are two of my favorite styles of the duck boot from Tommy Hilfiger.

Trend Talk: Socks with Sandals

One of the most interesting trends to make a debut on the F/W 2010 runway are socks worn with sandals or open toed shoes. You may be thinking ugh, what an awful combo! However, this new craze is super cute and if done right, can look tres chic.

NOTE: We are not talking white cotton athletic socks like the ones your grandpa and mine wear with their Velcro strapped sandals. Think sheer ankle or knee length socks or more fall friendly variations like tweed and wool worn with flats or sky high heels/booties. Paired with a dress or a skirt ensemble in the season's hottest layered pieces, you will be certainly be the most stylish girl on the block.

Check out how these fashionistas are rocking the look. Imitate their outfits and you can't go wrong.

Jupe lovers--how are you feeling about this trend? Is it a go?

Shine on..

There is nothing that I love more than wearing two completely contrasting styles together. I love menswear and lace, a cargo jacket over a flirty dress, and mixing prints. Two things that are so "wrong" together can often be just right. So it comes as no surprise that this sweatshirt is just up my alley. A comfortable sweatshirt and shiny sequins in one? Shine, uh I mean, sign me up!

Not sure how to wear it? We have a few ideas for you:

For daytime: pair with ripped boyfriend jeans and colored Chuck Taylors. Add a big, simple tote for all of your daily essentials.

For a night out: pair with ultra skinny black denim and sky high black pumps. A simple pair of hoops, a bright colored clutch, and a bright red lip will be the perfect finishing touches.
