Grammy Awards: The Scandalous, The Scary, The Sensational, and The Down Right Weird

Overall the Grammy Awards last night were pretty great. With Fantastic performances by Eminem and Rihanna , Muse , and who could forget Mick Jagger, the man is 68yrs old and had more energy than some of twenty somethings performing. Very entertaining.

As for the fashions of the night there were also some pretty great dresses , but of course the great dresses were followed by some scandalous , scary, and weird (ahem Lady GaGa) dresses.

Lets Start off good with some favorites of the night.

Hillary Scott, Lea Michele, Eva Longoria, and Julianne Hough. These ladies looked fantastic , all of them wore dresses appropriate for their body types , each with a little sex appeal and class.

Now on to the scandalous of the night.

I am a big fan of every lady in this category, but not a big enough fan that i wanted to see everything they were putting out there. A rule my mother taught me : It is always better to leave a little for the imagination. But then again i guess some mom's probably said: Hey if you got it ,flaunt it.

And now for the scary...

There is not much to say about these looks , excpet for they definately stood out . Now i hate to put Esperanza Spalding in this category because she did win best new artist and her dress was not terrible, it was the bubble gum pink shoes and the hair that put her in this category. Sorry Esperanza still love your music.

Next up , the pretty fantastic runner ups of the night

Love all the gold tones and vintage vibes in these dresses. Well done Ladies!

And of course in a category all her own ...Lady GaGa

I think we have all come to realize that it is Hall-o-Ween 24/7 year round with Lady GaGa . From pointed shoulders, arriving in an egg, latex dance costumes, and overly large umbrella hats , GaGa pulled out all the stops for the Grammys last night. I think we would have been quite disappointed if she hadn't . So, keep doing your thing GaGa because i am sure we will keep watching (and listening) .

We love this quote because it gives you an even better reason to splurge on some great V-day inspired pieces for yourself. Plus, you don't have to buy a gift for someone else if you are your own valentine.

It is okay to go with the predictable red dress , especially when it is so cute. If you are looking to go with a bit of a different look this black dress with chain embellishments is a great pick! Take it from Kim K and Anne Hathaway , if you go simple add some great accessories. Your dress does not have to be red on V-day it can be black, purple, pink, orange ....whatever you feel good in .

Nude pumps make your legs look longer and are a great alternative to your usual black pumps. A printed peep toe pump is versatile and adds a little oomph to a simple outfit.

Sheer tops
Tanks and blouses being shown for spring/resort are super see through--see Jason Wu and Proenza Schouler's interpretations of the trend below. Loving the sheer look but not sure how to execute it? Simply wear a basic silk fitted tank or cami underneath--match the strap shape of your undershirt to the strap shape of the sheer tank/blouse. For those bold stylistas out there, try rocking a printed undertank instead of a solid--it will give your outfit uniqueness and pop. On the bottom, opt for a pencil skirt, skinny trousers or denim.

1970's style

It seems that almost every designer on the 2011 runway was somewhat inspired by the 70's era. Dying to know the latest and greatest spring and resort trends for 2011? Well fashionistas, you are in luck! Jupe's team of buyers have just returned from their quarterly purchasing trip and have the total scoop on what's all the rage!

Lace

Although lace has been big for a few seasons, the pieces being shown for spring are light or neutral in color (tan, white, beige) or black with lighter colored underlay. Check out Dolce and Gabbana runway footage for inspiration--it was filled with pieces constructed entirely of white cutout lace.

Bright pinks/oranges

Think spring break, Fort Lauderdale in the 80's--the pinker, the better. Hot corals, bold magentas, and outrageous oranges are totally in vogue. NOTE: To avoid an over-the-top look, tone down bold colored items by pairing them with neutrals like grey, khaki, or white--they look classier when incorporated with muted palates.

How To Rock: The Tunic Tank

For date night

There is nothing that I love more than wearing two completely contrasting styles together. I love menswear and lace, a cargo jacket over a flirty dress, and mixing prints. Two things that are so "wrong" together can often be just right. So it comes as no surprise that this sweatshirt is just up my alley. A comfortable sweatshirt and shiny sequins in one? Shine, uh I mean, sign me up!

Its that time of year again! Time to pack everything up and begin making the transition from summer to school. Although you have many priorities such as buying your books, setting up your apartment/dorm, and making sure your class schedule looks right, one very important thing that needs to be done is to find the perfect "first day of class" outfit. Finding this perfect outfit is key because first impressions are proven to have a huge impact on how people will perceive you for the rest of the time they know you. (I learned that fact in psychology class last year) A great outfit could very possibly start a conversation which as a result could be the start of a great new relationship. Also, on the first day you will have time to tragically plan an outfit, which becomes harder to do later in the year when the weather gets colder and sweat pants look more and more inviting. So, I have picked out an outfit that i personally would wear to my first day of class to help spark some ideas.

I personally would go more casual to class than dressy. This striped tank pairs perfectly with the adorable skirt to form the ultimate "first day of class" outfit. Both stripes and zippers are very in right now, so you will be sure to be stylish. I would pair this outfit with a cool pair of sandals.

I fell in love with this jacket. Adding something like it to this outfit would be a good idea. It will keep you warm and also make you look great :) A simple necklace also adds to the look.

Hi everyone, my name is Gretta and the point of me blogging is to give some style ideas for you college girls.

The one very important thing I have learned about style at school is that you really have two different identities, the class room and the night life. Day to night styling tends to be very different, and combining the two is often difficult.

Dressing for class requires something easy and comfortable. Sure, you want to look good, but you don't always have time to plan out a great outfit before rushing off to class, and sitting through a long class being uncomfortable can turn into one of the worst hours of your life.

Going out however, you have the opportunity to take the time to perfect an outfit. You don't really have to worry about comfort or rushing to put something together. When going out, your main goal is simply to look good.

So, to help bring "day style" and "night style" together I have picked out a piece that can be used both in the classroom scene and during a night on the town.

Recently I have been in love with rompers. They are adorable, easy to slip on, and ridiculously comfortable, which makes them a perfect piece to wear to class. A romper can also easily be dressed up and made into a great outfit to go out in. Therefore, a romper is just the perfect piece to add to your college wardrobe!

Here are some of the ways a romper can be worn.....

DAY

To style your romper for class add some simple jewelry like the necklace you see in the picture. I would pair the outfit with sandals and a cardigan. The cardigan is a very good idea because not only is it cute, but it will also keep you warm in a chilly classroom.

NIGHT

Now for dressing up your romper for a night out, I would add some eye-catching jewelry, preferably big bracelets and long dangling earrings. Adding a belt is also something I would be likely to do, it adds a lot more to the outfit. The last thing you need is a pair of banging heels and your night time outfit is ready for anything.

I took an unofficial twitter poll last week (thanks to all of you for responding!) asking "Do you always wear the same size?" The results were much as I expected: a unanimous "no". One Twitter friend told us that she has from size 2 through 16 in her closet! Another told us that she has all different sizes in her closet and that it depends on the fit, the piece, and the look that she's going for.

I always suggest to customers who eye a piece that we don't have "their" size to give it a try anyway. Fit depends so much on the cut of the item and how you want to wear it. If it's a dress that's a bit to big in the waist, but you love the print and price, a belt might be a simple solution for a better fit. If the small is just a bit too short, the medium might give you just enough extra length without being too big on top. I'm not advocating wearing clothes that don't fit well, just encouraging an open mind when it comes to the number on the label. Sometimes the only way that you really know how something will look is to give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised!

I definitely snazzed this little number up. But you could easily take off the sash, throw on flats and have a cottony casual look with flair. Oh yeah, this is cotton. The fabric of our lives.

Do I owe someone a dollar for saying that?

Speaking of dollars, this dress is thirty-eight of them. Don't trample each other or anything. Just get your booties down to Jupe as quickly as possible before these are all gone.

Next up... the gals at Jupe know of and understand my sick and unyielding obsession with stripes. So they decided to loan me a top that fell within the stripe category but that looks like nothing I have.

Most of my striped dresses and tops are cream or white and black or navy. This top, however, has the most perfect sledgehammer of spirited red and white that I've had the pleasure of wearing. So I played around a bit.

I'm just as much of a jeans and t-shirt gal as anyone. I just want them to look good.

Let's say I want to take that t-shirt and make it a little sweeter. Bold, flirty skirt = DONE.

10 Simple Ways to “Go Green”

1. Become energy-efficient and save money while doing so.

Use compact fluorescent light bulbs and/or LED lighting (Save 75% on electric bills).
Turn lights, etc. out when leaving a room.
Using Energy Star appliances helps greatly reduce energy use.
Use re-chargeable batteries (great for power-hogs like cameras).
Use a programmable thermostat (to turn the heat down while away).

2. Use a re-useable shopping bag instead of disposable plastic grocery bags.

Why keep accumulating disposable plastic bags when you can reuse a compact, sturdy, and colorful bag like “ChicoBag” or “Envirosax”? Using a re-useable shopping bag is actually becoming more of the norm these days, instead of the exception! Green and fashionable at the same time!

3. Stop junk mail:

To opt out of receiving all that pesky mail, you can go to: www.dmachoice.org (Direct Marketing Association). They do charge a $1.00 fee, but it would be worth cutting down all the excess paper clogging the mailbox and landfills!

4. Recycle your electronics.

Locally, Construction Junction accepts some appliances and electronic waste (there are fees for some items): http://constructionjunction.org/pages/recycling-resources.
There are several places that even pay for some of your old computers, monitors, cell phones, cameras, etc.: www.buymytronics.com , www.myboneyard.com , and www.greenphone.com.

5. Use a water filter instead of buying bottled water

Prevent excessive plastic bottle waste, and conserve the energy it would require to transport them. Using a water filter is more cost-effective in the long-run, anyway, and it conserves water (that would otherwise be required in the processing of bottled water).

6. Opt for organically-grown (i.e.) fruits & vegetables, and organic cotton clothes.

Organically–grown means that it’s grown without the use of pesticides.

Produce that typically uses the most pesticides (so buy organic when possible) = peach, apple, bell pepper, celery, nectarine, strawberries, cherries, kale, lettuce, grapes, carrot, pear.
Produce typically using the lowest amount of pesticides = onion, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, kiwi, cabbage, eggplant, papaya, watermelon, broccoli, tomato, sweet potato.

7. Use non-toxic & biodegradable household cleaners.

Time for Spring cleaning! Consider using greener cleaning products. Many cleaning products have harsh chemicals with fumes that can adversely affect your health (in various ways, from simply giving you a headache or skin irritation, to respiratory issues, to cancer!). There are many safer cleaning products (such as Seventh Generation, Biokleen, etc.) as well as simple cleaners that you can make yourself. (see: http://www.ecocycle.org/hazwaste/recipes.cfm ). This way, there are less harsh chemical fumes in your home, as well as less chemicals downstream. It’s also a good time to open your windows for some fresh air!

8. Less is more:

Opt for products with less packaging; it reduces the amount of waste in landfills.
Better yet, opt for recycled, such as recycled paper products (whether office paper or paper towel, etc.).

9. Walk, bike, carpool, use public transportation or drive a hybrid car to work.

Also, run errands in an efficient loop, to save time, gas, and car emissions.

10. Shop local businesses/local products (reduce the “carbon footprint”)

First, let's discuss how you SHOULDN'T wear the crop top. Avoid sporting it with unstructured shorts like Whitney Port (far right) does in the picture below. It looks sloppy and far from chic. You also shouldn't let your belly button hang out like Lindsay Lohan (far left) does in her low rise denim shorts--it looks unpolished and a little too 90's.

Greetings style stewards! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Terra. I blog on stylish white female and I have the most insatiable style crush on Jupe Boutique. I absolutely adore this print. Florals are huge for spring and summer. When aren't they, really? Spring, especially in Pittsburgh, is when we finally get to feel alive again. This winter was particularly brutal, am I right? So inject some bold color into your wardrobe!

I love how comfy the top is. I could eat a pound of dough and you'd never know. I kept it a little sexy by pulling the neck off of my shoulder. What gal doesn't love her shoulders?

I would wear this outfit on a day date. It's bright and lovely. Effortless enough that I wouldn't feel like I was trying too hard, but daring enough that I'd get my date to look twice. And thrice. ;) The skinnies on the bottom balance out the flouncy top.

By the way, I'm a shortie. Not like, "Hey shortie, can I get your number?" I'm five feet naught. What, you ask, is one of the hottest items for summer 2010? Why the bandeau top, of course! Not only is it super chic, but it's uber versatile--it can be worn under tanks, tees, dresses, vests, etc. Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein, and Bottega Veneta all crafted renditions of this sexy trend--take a look at how some other fab designers showed the bandeau on the 2010 runway.

Get Schooled On Chanel
